hello hull
2017 City of Culture was awarded to the city of Hull in the North of England. Their committee commissioned Studio Anorak to create four magazines designed to celebrate the rich cultural history of the city and to encourage school children to record their experiences with such momentous occasion.
Studio Anorak produced four magazines, each based on the themes explored in the City’s cultural programme. Hello Hull Magazine was printed on matte paper, with each edition designed to be part-activity book, part-logbook, a place for children to record their cultural journey.
Studio Anorak immersed themselves in the history of the City and worked closely with the Learning team and schools to devise all content. The magazines were fully illustrated and contained poems, games, activities and interesting facts about the city. Each edition had dedicated illustrators and was designed within the 2017 City of Culture’s brand guidelines.
Hello Hull was distributed to every primary school child in Hull, which accounted for 36,000 pupils. It was also given away at all major events happening around the City such as Hull’s literature festival Malarkey. It was loved by
children and parents alike and featured in
Design Week and
The Bookseller. See what children had to say about it
